Useful details

JPEG is often smaller for photographs and uses lossy compression. It is less suitable for crisp diagrams and text. PNG transparency is filled with white because JPEG cannot store alpha transparency. A higher quality setting usually gives a larger file; no specific saving is promised. Original files are unchanged. Metadata and animation are not preserved. Input is limited to 40 million pixels; output to 16 million pixels and 8,000 pixels per side.

Questions about this tool

What happens to transparent PNG areas?

They are composited onto a white background in the JPEG output.

Will every PNG become smaller?

No. Size depends on the image and quality setting. Compare the actual byte counts before choosing the result.
