Image CompressorOn-device processing

Preparing your tool…

How to use it

  1. 01Choose an image and review its original size and dimensions.
  2. 02Choose an output format, adjust quality where available, and optionally limit width.
  3. 03Compress, compare the two previews and actual sizes, then download the result.

Useful details

JPEG, WebP and supported AVIF encoders use adjustable lossy quality. PNG is lossless; reducing dimensions or changing format may be needed to reduce size. BMP is uncompressed and is generally unsuitable for smaller downloads. The compressor never upscales an image. Some optimized originals become larger after processing; the result shows this clearly. Maximum output is 16 million pixels and 8,000 pixels per side. Metadata and animation are not preserved.

Questions about this tool

Does every image become smaller?

No. Already optimized files may become larger. The savings panel uses the original and output byte counts, and flags a larger result.

Why is there no PNG quality slider?

The browser PNG encoder does not use the lossy quality setting. Reduce dimensions or try JPEG/WebP when suitable.

Where is compression performed?

On your device, using a background worker and OffscreenCanvas where supported. A smaller compatibility fallback supports older browsers. Files are not uploaded.
