  3. 03Compare Original, Compressed and Saved values, review the PDF and download the smaller file.

Useful details

Automatic compression first optimizes PDF structure without rasterizing text. Plain scanned documents can be recompressed using the selected quality level; text, forms, links, outlines and vector content are protected from automatic page-image conversion. If a tested copy is not smaller, the tool may try a more compact scan configuration and keeps the best result. Changes below 1% or 256 bytes are treated as negligible. An equal or larger copy is never offered as compressed output. Advanced settings retain structural-only optimization and an explicit image-copy option with resolution and JPEG quality controls. Image-copy mode removes selectable text, links, forms and accessibility tags. Scan rendering is limited to 40 pages, 6 million pixels per page and 60 million pixels total; structural optimization supports 500 pages. Password-protected PDFs are unsupported, and digital-signature validity is not preserved. Originals stay unchanged.

Questions about this tool

Which compression level should I choose?

Recommended balances size and quality. Strong compression targets smaller scanned files; Best quality uses a lighter reduction. Normal use does not require resolution or JPEG settings.

Will every PDF become smaller?

No. Already optimized PDFs may have no meaningful reduction. Larger or nearly identical copies are discarded; the tool tells you to keep the original.

Does compression remove searchable text?

Automatic mode retains text and document features. The explicit image-copy option under Advanced settings replaces all pages with pictures and removes text search and selection.
